Hi! My name is Isaac.

Journalism is my passion and my calling. Writing has my heart.

My Journey

Though I was born in San Diego and call it my home, I didn’t live in the United States until I was 10. This dichotomy has shaped who I am ever since. Perhaps some people might develop an absence of belonging anywhere, but I’ve always felt I belonged everywhere I have gone.

I earned my journalism degree from Chico State, the place where I fell in love with journalism. After that, life took me in different directions. I worked for the Lake County Record-Bee in Lake County, where I began to carve my place in the journalism world. I later moved to South Lake Tahoe, a beautiful place where I further challenged myself to produce journalism that would make my new community a better place.

I moved to Colombia in January of 2016, where I realized a long-time dream to live in South America. There, I was inspired by the young students of Institución Educativa Antonio Derka, who accepted me as one of their own from the first day.

A desire to continue challenging myself led me to San Diego State University, where I earned a master’s degree in communication. After graduating in May of 2018, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to continue being part of the university as a lecturer. I currently teach two courses in the School of Journalism and Media Studies, Media in Latin America and Media, Technology and Society.
